On November 6, 2008 the sequel to Gears of War came out. And my husband being an avid follower of this game went and bought it. This game is rated mature. The only reason that I chose to review this game is because my husband has come across many children playing it and cursing at him. Upon hearing this it disturbed me; I couldn't help but wonder why a parent would buy such a game for their child. Knowing that there is violence, blood and cursing this would be three reasons not to buy it for a child.

There was one time my husband was playing online in a multi-player match and he experienced one of the children. It is a normal thing for the people playing to cuss at each other and talk trash but this is when it was carried way too far. A boy, who by the way said he was older, was calling the people on the other team all kinds of wonderful names, and when the team that he was trash talking fought back his father got involved. His father started calling the people in the game names and saying that no one should be talking to a ten year old that way. From that moment on it exploded. The question that came up then was why is a ten year old playing this game? But this example brings me to my point. If you know that there is cussing and worse in the game itself you do not let a child play it.

Common sense tells us that children do not need to be exposed to this kind of content. But some parents do not seem to care about what their children see and hear. These tend to be the parents that let their children do what they please for the most part. As a parent I know that I would not want my son to play this game. It deals with adult situations like death and war, but does not even include the images throughout the game or the language. From what I also understand you can choose to put a parental control on this game. This differs from the first one, whereas you could not do this. The parental setting is when you can choose to tone down the language and violence. This however still does not take out all of the violence and the death. There is one scene in the middle of the game where one of the main characters finds his missing wife near death. She was still alive but barely, so he had to choose to put her out her misery or not. He chose to do the right thing and let her go.

Overall I think this is a fun game, but it is not meant for the faint of heart. In the end I would not expose any child to the content of this game. The images of this game could cause some children to have nightmares or worse. This game also could depict that violence is alright. There is just so much about this game that could be taken the wrong way.
